Radical Womanhood: Feminine Faith in a Feminist World

A couple of weeks ago my husband went to the Shepherd’s Conference at Grace Community Church. He had a Great time and came home with 33 new books! I wrote a post about that HERE.

So anyway, I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had time to blog let alone crack open any of our new books (all of which I am very excited to start reading!!). But this week I decided to give up a little blogging time (and sleeping time) to try out one of my new books. And boy I’m sure glad that I did!

The first of our Shepherd’s conference books that I started was:
“Radical Womanhood: Feminine Faith in a Feminist World”
By Carolyn McCulley

{Now before I begin, please note that I am not receiving anything for this review. I simply love spreading the word about great new books. Especially because you never really know what you are going to get picking up a Christian book. There are so many different types of Christian books out there. From ultra conservative to ultra liberal.}

So here goes: My Review

I began this book a little skeptical because only so many books can be written on Biblical womanhood without everything beginning to repeat. And I have never found a more comprehensive book on biblical womanhood than Martha Peace’s book “The Excellent Wife” {I highly recommend this book to everyone!!!!}. The bar is already set really high for a book on womanhood to even compare.
But I was pleasantly surprised! After reading Peace’s book the first few chapters of McCulley’s book seemed a bit too basic {Although she does quote Peace’s book :)}. But don’t stop reading!! The first few chapters are a great summary. However I do recommend that you read Martha Peace’s book first to better understand where McCulley base of Biblical womanhood is coming from.

After {briefly} describing Biblical womanhood she then delves into the Feminist world view {Now it gets interesting!!}.
McCulley herself used to be a feminist and has a first hand view of what that means. In one chapter she lays out the fascinating history of Feminism and the modern effects on our culture. Many of us who are under 30 or 40 don’t often even realize the effects that feminism has had on our modern ideas of womanhood and motherhood.
She makes a great call to Christian woman to live Biblically in a feminist world.

The Bottom Line:
I highly recommend this book!! But like I said I do recommend you read “The Excellent Wife” first. Especially if you are not very familiar with this definition of Biblical womanhood. To get a little glimpse of her book check out my post HERE on living life as a godly wife.

McCulley did a great job of pulling many different resources together to present a succinct overview of feminist history and its affects today. While this book does not go into every detail of this subject it does present enough if you wanted to get a good solid overview and a quick read. It presents a jumping off point if you want to delve deeper into this subject.

Have you read this book? What do you think about it? Do you have other books like this you want to recommend!!?
