Wedding Consulting

I dearly love Weddings. I love everything about weddings!

I adore dress shopping. I love the beautiful old traditions such as wearing a white dress and the father handing his daughter off. But I also love the new fun ideas such as mixing sand together instead of a unity candle.

I love the countless hours spent searching for the perfect invitation that will tie your entire theme together. I love hunting for those perfect table centerpieces to match your Gerbera Daisy theme or your SeaShell Beach theme.

I have always loved weddings and I had a blast planning my own wedding over a year ago. I planned it by myself {meaning without a coordinator...I of course had lots of help from friends and family} in 7 months and loved every single minute of it.

Two years ago I took five wedding planning courses. It was a wonderful time and I cherish all that I learned from those courses. All that I learned really came in handy when planning my own wedding. During the process I half wondered if my love of all things wedding would decrease after my big day was done.

But no. I still am in love with weddings. I love going to a bridal store and watching a friend try on dresses for hours! I love finding themes that fit together and that special something that is going to make the day!

Now remember those five courses I did? Well all that I had left to get my wedding consultant certificate was a comprehensive final test and project. I have been working on my bachelors degree and busy getting married myself so my wedding consultant program was far from my mind.

But my Mother-In-Law put the bug back in my ear. She urged me to finish the program and get my certification. Hm...this is not a bad idea. I will be graduating college in May and as many of you know I have actively been looking for a way to make some money from home once we have little ones {which still won't be for a few more years..according to our plan..but you never know what God's got up His sleeve ;)}.

So I am thinking about finishing up my certification. I don't know if I could do it before May but it is a bug in my ear know. Thanks Mom :)

Do you have experience as a wedding consultant? Any advice for a novice like me?!? :)

  1. Oh my gosh, DO IT DO IT DO IT! I would LOVE to have a wedding consultant license! Like you, I figured i'd tire of oogling over bridal magazines and wedding cakes, but that was so not the case. I'm still in love with weddings. :)

  2. Do it. I love weddings and I thought about being a wedding consultant a few years back. The best advice I can give is for you to see if you can assist wedding planners. That way you can observe how they work, the actual details of the job etc. Think of it as on the job training. Things you will never be able to learn just by reading textbooks and materials. Good luck!

  3. Hey guys! Thanks for the advice and encouragement! I really would love to do this...so we'll see! I already have most of the work done for the certification. :)

And Tiff great advice!! The program I am doing helps beginners pair up with consultants that have been doing it for years for some internship training. I would LOVE to do this. Help them out with a few weddings and see how it goes! But I don't think I'll have any time to do this before I graduate next may. So I may be waiting until next Summer. But it gives me lots of time to think about it! haha

    Thanks girls!! :)

  4. You were are a beautiful bride. I planned my wedding all by myself as well - but I didn't love it quite like you did! Oh I think it takes a special talent to want to be a wedding coordinator. You should go for it! :)

  6. James,
I have grown to love you, and am going to go out on a limb with counsel which you may not like, but you can throw it away (or take it to heart) as you wish: My first response to your getting your wedding consultant certificate was, Yeah, go for it, because you're so close to finishing! But, on second thought a couple of things came into my mind: 1)I wouldn't want my husband to accompany me to many modern weddings (Christian or not), because of the immodesty, and I wouldn't want to be away from my husband on weekends; (FYI: a wedding photographer we know said he has to see a lot of bad stuff in his job.) 2) We (my husband and I) thought, like you, that we would "just wait" a couple of years to have kids. Telling God when to grant children to you doesn't always work out. In fact, it doesn't work at all. My experience was that I wasn't able to have children after only using birth control for 1 1/2 years, and I suffered miscarriage, and other problems--finally 7+ years after we were married we finally had our son. Then I miscarried again before our daughter was born. Sometimes God doesn't allow a couple to have children; when you let God be God and "let" Him (is He Lord?) give you all the gifts (children) He desires, He may choose none, one or many. But, I dearly wish we had let God plan our family, and that I had made raising children my focus from the beginning. He has been gracious, but I give you this counsel, as an older woman, who has had to learn His lessons, some of them, the hard way.
So, there it is: my "counsel", for what it's worth. Given in love, and hopefully, received in love.
    Blessings,
    Wendy
Psalm 127 (the whole five verses)
(3: "Lo, children are a heritage (gift) of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.")

  7. Following you back from TTA - thanks for visiting my blog.
I too love everything weddings and would love to be a wedding consultant. But right now, that doesn't work for us. Maybe in the future.
Do whatever works for you and your hubby. That's all I know to say, :)
