Basket Weave Cake

Here is a cake that I made last week. I taught myself how to do the basket weave and it turned out so nicely! I have always loved the basket weave look and it's actually really easy.

I made a wonderful vanilla cake for the inside with a rich butter cream frosting and filling.

I have had fun experimenting with different icings and cakes. I recently found a great cake at Cake Boss.
It is my favorite cake to make so far. It is so moist and yummy! She uses it as a wedding cake.

Makes 7 1/2 cups batter, enough for two full 8" rounds or one 9x13" sheet.

1 box Pillsbury or Betty Crocker White or Vanilla cake mix
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup + 2 tbsp cake flour (NOT all-purpose flour)
1/8 tsp salt

1 1/3 cups water
3 eggs
1/2 cup melted butter (lightly salted)
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp vanilla extract or almond extract (optional)
-----------------------------------------------------------------

1. In a large bowl, put water, extract (if using), eggs, melted butter and sour cream.  Mix well with paddle attachment.

2. Add cake mix, sugar, cake flour, and salt.

3. Mix with paddle attachment at medium speed for approximately 2 minutes, or until most lumps are worked out.  It is not necessary to work out all the lumps.

Pour into prepared pans and bake at 325 until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out
clean, or with just a crumb or two clinging to it.

Office Decorating

I started a new position this week. I work at a University and while in school I have been part time and was just hired on full time this week into a brand new position. Praise the Lord! He is so good!!

But anyway I suddenly found myself in a new desk and area that was in some bad need of decorating. I have more decorating to go but for now I am so happy with the few things I made.

I began this process by making a bullitin board to pin things to. Well as I added the fabric and elements it just got too cute-so I made it into a photo/scripture board and I Love it!

I work at a Christian University and love that I can hang things such as Proverbs 31 on my wall. This now sits to the right of my computer.

On the right side I printed Proverbs 31 with a cute little sewing machine above it.

On the right side I put a beautiful picture of my Hubby and I. With "Established 2009" above it <3

This is how it looks hung all nicely on my beautiful red wall next to my computer.

I also made a cute lamp to match. I used the same fabric to cover it and the same lace. I just need to get a light bulb now!

I still have work to do but this is what one corner of my desk now looks like :) I'm so happy with the results.

Anniversary Trip to the Ocean

Hubby and I celebrated our two year anniversary last week. And to celebrate we decided to take a weekend away to Pismo Beach and it was wonderful!

I also graduated from college two weeks ago so it was a double celebration.

We found an awesome deal on a hotel on the beach. It was wonderful and so relaxing!
We stayed in this funky retro room.

This was taken right outside the hotel lobby. What a beautiful day to wake up to!

On our first morning we found this adorable little coffee shop and had breakfast.
It's called The Honeymoon Cafe
Hubby thought the sign in the door was hilarious...I did too...

For dinner we found a Hometown Buffet {I LOVE buffet's}. It was their grand opening weekend to a newly redesigned store...and it was pretty awesome!!
They had different stations such as Italian and Chinease. And icee's...it was cool. :)

The next day we went for a walk along the beach and it was such a nice time.

And we found my favorite ice cream!!! Bubblegum! It is so hard to find this ice cream now. I used to get it all the time as a kid. :) They also had cotton candy icecream...had to try it!

Vintage 1950's Photos-Part 2

A couple weeks ago my sweet Hubby and I had photos taken and we put a vintage theme on them. I have been wanting to do this forever and I am so happy with them! I posted a few days ago Part One of our photos.

We took so many great photos that I'm spreading them out. But this post is still very photo heave. Enjoy!

I Love how my husband is looking at me in this photo! Love Him!

Okay, I am done with photos now!! {For today!} There are just so many great shots I couldn't narrow it down any more.

White Rose Cake

I have been learning how to decorate cakes lately and have been having a blast! For so long now I have been drooling over this cake

Now that I have learned some really great tricks, I took on the challenge to duplicate it. And here is my version.

It's hard to get a picture of an all white cake and I'm not the best photographer...so sorry for the pictures!

And inside I put red velvet cake...I Love the contrast!
{I took this in the office, it's a bit messy}

I think this would be such a fun cake for a wedding..so my sister's pay attention for your weddings! :)
